María del Rosario Silva Hernández, our Science and Global Education teacher, has been recognized by News Decoder. In words of one of its leaders, Nelson Graves, “she has done such terrific work encouraging students to engage with News Decoder, we’d like to feature her in our Faculty in the Spotlight series.

We’ve been very impressed with the number of students and faculty using News Decoder this year, the different ways they’ve been using us and the quality of the engagement. We realized that Maria is a driving force behind it in Colombia”.

News Decoder is a global educational news service for young people. Its non-profit partners with schools around the world to teach journalistic and media literacy skills that extend students’ global horizons. Maria del Rosario, working with all her colleagues at Gimnasio Los Caobos, has mobilized an unprecedented number of students and teachers to use the resources of News Decoder, which is an "essential opportunity to enrich students' skills" within their projects.

News Decoder is a connection between the school and the world. For her work, Caobos has been cataloged as one of the best secondary schools in Colombia. More than 150 high school students today are taking News Decoder online courses to help them investigate inside and outside the classroom.
